St Constantine and St Helen’s community of the Russian Orthodox Church was established in York on October, 2011. By the decree of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church as of 6 of October 2011, the newly-established community became a part of Sourozh Diocese of Russian Orthodox Church in Great Britain and Ireland.

Priest Dimitry Nedostupenko from the Russian Orthodox Church has been appointed Rector.

The first Liturgy in York was conducted by His Eminence Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh on the 15th of October, 2011 celebrating the Feast of Intercession of the Holy Virgin.

On the 4th of February, 2012 the first ever Russian Orthodox Liturgy was held in the York Minster. The service took place in the oldest part of the Minster, the Crypt, where St Constantine was proclaimed Emperor in the year 306.
